Our guide to this scholarship

The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals is the Swedish government’s master’s scholarship for working professionals with leadership experience. It supports full-time one- or two-year master’s studies in four areas: governance, public health, entrepreneurship and innovation, and STEM.

What it covers: full tuition, paid by SI directly to your university each semester; SEK 12,000 a month for living costs; and a one-time travel grant of SEK 15,000. It does not include insurance, money for family members or the University Admissions application fee.

Who can apply: citizens of 34 countries. From the Arab world, only Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Morocco are on the list. Citizens of the six GCC states and other Arab countries are not eligible. You may live anywhere when you apply. Applicants from these four countries need at least 3,000 hours of work experience before February 2027, from no more than three employers, plus leadership experience from work, a business you started or civil society. You are excluded if you study at or graduated from a Swedish university, have lived in Sweden for two years or more, or already held an SI study scholarship. Dual citizens are also excluded if their second citizenship is of a country outside the DAC list of aid recipients, so an Egyptian or Jordanian who also holds a GCC passport cannot apply.

When to apply: there are two steps, and both count.
1. By 15 January 2027: apply to eligible master’s programmes through University Admissions and pay the fee on time. The window opened on 16 October 2026.
2. From 8 to 24 February 2027: submit the SI application. The portal closes at 14:59 CET on 24 February, which is 16:59 in Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait and Manama, 15:59 in Cairo and 17:59 in the UAE and Oman.

What to prepare:
1. Your programme choices from the SI list, published on 13 November 2026.
2. Work-experience certificates on SI’s template forms, also published on 13 November.
3. Clear examples of leadership: people you led, decisions you shaped.
4. A motivation that links your programme to sustainable development in your country.

Timeline: SI screening 25 February to 31 March 2027; university results 1 April 2027; SI results 22 April 2027; studies start in August 2027.

Practical notes for applicants from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Morocco: you must be admitted, or conditionally admitted, on the first admissions day; reserve places and late admissions do not count. SI publishes application and selection statistics by country, which show the competition from your country. If you hold two eligible citizenships, apply with one only; double applications are all disqualified.
