Euroculture is a two-year Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in European studies and cultural, political and social change. Students study at two or more universities of the consortium: Göttingen, Groningen, Udine, Strasbourg, Olomouc, Kraków (Jagiellonian) and Uppsala, with partners in India, Canada, Mexico and Japan.
What the scholarship covers: EUR 1,400 a month for living costs for the 24 months of the programme (EUR 33,600 in total), all participation costs with tuition fully waived, and health insurance.
Who can apply: the consortium states that, with very few exceptions, most nationalities are eligible. Applicants from the GCC and the Arab world can apply. You need a first degree, completed by 15 January 2027, in a relevant field such as international relations, European studies, history, cultural or literary studies, sociology, political science, anthropology, philosophy, communication and media, international or European law, or theology. Generally not accepted: economics, psychology, management, exact sciences, education (teacher training), social work, business administration, accounting, translation and interpretation, tourism, engineering, computer science and medicine. If you already received an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, you cannot receive another.
When to apply: the online application opened on 15 October 2026 and scholarship applications close on 15 January 2027. No closing time is stated, so submit a day early.
What to prepare:
1. Degree certificate and transcripts as PDF files.
2. English proof: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no section below 6.5, TOEFL iBT 93 for tests taken before 2026 or no section below 5.0 for tests from 2026, PTE Academic 71 with 61 in writing, Cambridge CAE or CPE, or LanguageCert 75 (not recognised at Uppsala). If your degree was taught entirely in English, you may be exempt.
3. An academic writing sample of at least 2,000 words.
4. CV, passport or ID and a photo.
5. Names and contact details of two referees, the first an academic. They receive a questionnaire and must answer within two working weeks of your submission.
Timeline: applications 15 October 2026 to 15 January 2027; short interviews for shortlisted applicants; scholarship results expected by the end of March 2027; studies start in autumn 2027.
Practical notes for applicants from our region: Euroculture charges no application fee. Your application stays incomplete until both referees have responded, so warn them before you submit, and do not submit on the last day. Translation, business, engineering and computer science graduates are generally not accepted, so check the field list before you invest time.
Our advice: a chapter of your graduation project or a research paper written in English can serve as the 2,000-word writing sample.
